An AIIMS study shows that side effects of Chemotherapy
can now be controlled with Maharishi Amrit Kalash

An extensive medical research conducted by AIIMS with research support from Maharishi Ayurveda Products (MAP), has achieved a significant breakthrough in controlling side effects of chemotherapy in Cancer treatment. Maharishi Amrit Kalash (MAK), an Ayurvedic herbal compound developed by Maharishi Ayurved has been found to be effective in the control of side effects during Chemotherapy.

Representing a major breakthrough in overcoming the problems associated with chemotherapy, the findings are the result of a two year long study undertaken at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) by Dr. Atul Sumaiya under the guidance of Dr. Anurag Srivastava, Addl. Professor, Dept. of Surgery, AIIMS. The study was a ñRandomized Trial To Evaluate The Effectiveness Of Maharishi Amrit Kalash (MAK) In Reducing The Toxicity Of Cytotoxic Chemotherapy In Breast & Gastrointestinal Cancersî.

The Findings

For the study a sample size of 92 patients with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy were recruited. Of these 44 patients were randomized to receive MAK for a period of six months while 48 patients were in the control arm.

For the research 16 side effects of chemotherapy were studied out of which 12 side effects were observed to be prevalent amongst the sample. The study has revealed that MAK has significantly reduced the following side effects:

1. Control in the loss of appetite

2. Control of weight loss

3. Control of vomiting

4. Better levels of performance

Apart from this, the patients also showed lowered effects of the following 3 side effects:

1. Fever

2. Pain

3. Stomatitis

In the remaining 5 side effects, MAK had a marginal effect. Another significant observation has been that in the group receiving MAK, the cases of complete remission of the tumour is 13 out of 18 (72.22%) as opposed to 11 out of 20 (55%) in the case of patients receiving only chemotherapy.

Commenting on the efficacy and effectiveness of Maharishi Amrit Kalash, Dr. Anurag Srivastava said, ñOver the past two years of the research, we have come to the conclusion that MAK possesses enormous potential in controlling the side effects of chemotherapy. In fact, MAK is the only medicine which addresses most of the side effects of chemotherapy without any further harmful effects.î

Ideal Protective Agent

This is because chemotherapy, offered as a cancer treatment, itself is associated with significant side effects and toxicity resulting in high dropouts (i.e. patients discontinuing chemotherapy treatment), morbidity and mortality. The patients continuing with chemotherapy, on the other hand, suffer from various side effects including a general state of weakness. To prevent or control chemotherapy-related side effects, Medical world has been trying various drugs. However, these drugs have themselves been associated with unwanted side effects.

Worldwide search has been on for an ideal protective agent to prevent the toxic manifestations of chemotherapy. AIIMS, through its study has discovered that MAK takes care of most of the chemotherapy related side effects. It is indeed a revolutionary finding for thousands of people suffering from cancer around the world.

Major Contribution in the World of Medicine

The entire research has been spread over a period of 5 years. The remaining 3 years of the research will be directed primarily towards the study of tumour reduction through the usage of MAK. In the future trials, an increased dosage of MAK would be given to patients to study the possible increase in the benefits of the medicine.
