To Iowa Secretary of State
Vedic City, Iowa, USA - Wednesday, July 25, 12:30
PM - Representatives of Iowa's first new city in 19 years will hand
over the official documents necessary to complete the incorporation
to Secretary of State Chet Culveron Wednesday, July 25 at 12:30
in his office on the first floor of the State Capitol.
Located
two miles north of Fairfield in southeast Iowa, Vedic
City is Iowa's first new city since 1982 and the 950th city
in the state.
Dedicated to creating maximum health and well-being
for its citizens and visitors, Vedic City is the first city in the
modern world to be based entirely on the ancient principles of Maharishi
Sthapatya-Veda design and other aspects of Maharishi Vedic Science.
"Veda" is the Sanskrit word meaning knowledge.
Rogers Badgett, one of the city's developers, said
Maharishi Vedic Science is comprised of 40 approaches, including
architecture, community planning, health care, education, music,
agriculture, etc. Its goal, he said, is to improve all aspects of
individual life and that of society.
State of Iowa Approved Petition to Incorporate
Earlier this year, a special committee of the Iowa City Development
Board approved a petition to incorporate the 654-acre site for the
new city. Then in May,residents of the area voted overwhelmingly
in a referendum to incorporate.
The formation of the new municipality has been
the subject of considerable national and international media attention, including
the New York Times, CNN, Agence France-Presse, the BBC, Voice of
America, Swiss television, and the Times of India. Many major newspapers
across the US carried an Associated Press article.
Future Plans
Vedic City currently has over 40 buildings all built according to
these Vedic principles, including The Raj, a nationally known health
spa and clinic, three resort hotels, condominiums, chalets, villas,
and homes.More than $30 million has already been spent on development.
Vedic City plans to expand amenities for citizens
and tourists by building Maharishi Veda Land, an indoor family theme
park with high tech illusions created by master magician the late
Doug Henning, and a Maharishi Vedic Observatory, a full-scale outdoor
astronomical observatory based upon principles of ancient observatories
found around the world.
Plans also include a golf academy and organic,
environmentally friendly 9-hole learning course with Vedic themes,
and walking trails and botanical gardens featuring a wide variety
of herbs and plants that are native to Iowa.
Maharishi Vedic Science Programs Attract Families
Over the last 27 years, more than 2,000 individuals and families
from across the US have moved to Fairfield to take advantage of
the programs offered by Maharishi University of Management. Founded
by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the University integrates the study of
traditional academic disciplines with the technologies of Maharishi
Vedic Science to develop the students' full potential.
"As the newest city in Iowa, and in America, Vedic
City and its residents are dedicated to producing greater prosperity, health, and
well-being for all Iowans, and to attract many tourists and new
residents to the state," said Bob Wynne,an expected candidate for
mayor of the city. "We look forward to working in cooperation with
all citizens of Iowa and their elected and appointed government
officials to bring this about most quickly."
