Says coherence-creating groups and proper education will
make the United States a dominant force for peace

(October 2, 2002) His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi offered U.S. President Bush a practical, proven formula to transform America overnight into the world's most dominant force for peace. Maharishi also urged the President to reset his administration's priorities, advising him to eliminate the poverty and suffering in the world rather than jeopardize the power and dignity of America by attacking the small nation of Iraq.

"It's not honorable for the most powerful nation to fly in a rage on little mosquitoes," Maharishi said. "I would advise the President not to bother about the mosquitoes, but instead shoot the tiger of suffering, shoot the tiger of poverty, shoot the tiger of the weaknesses of human life."

Maharishi's comments came during his weekly global news conference held on October 2 in Meru, Holland, and broadcast live to media on all continents via satellite, Internet webcast, and teleconference call. Maharishi will hold his next global news conferences this Wednesday, October 9, and Thursday, October 10 (see page 3 for details).

Parental role in the family of nations
Maharishi said that the U.S. should have a parental role in the family of nations. "The mightiest power in the world should be a solace, a support, to life everywhere. It should help every other nation enjoy its own freedom and sovereignty," Maharishi said.

However, Maharishi was also direct in his assessment if the U.S. pursues its current path. "If America continues its policy of destruction in the world, then the country itself will be destroyed. It will be better if the nation rises to play the parental role for life on earth."

Punishment does not stop crime and terrorism
Maharishi dismissed the conventional approach of using punishment to stop crime and terrorism, calling it a complete failure. "We must take a lesson from history," Maharishi said. "Governments have been punishing the culprits throughout the ages-jails and penal codes are everywhere-but crime has not been arrested. The only way to end the tradition of crime is through proper education which enables an individual to use his full brain."

Maharishi's formula to create world peace
Maharishi outlined two key aspects of his formula to end conflict and create world peace, which, he said, if promoted by the U.S., will make the country "a savior for the world, not a destroyer."

• Proper education-Maharishi said that governments should "wake up to their responsibility" to provide students with the most complete, scientific knowledge of Natural Law-now available in his Vedic education-so that all people in every country use their full brain potential and rise to higher states of consciousness. "Then everyone will enjoy ideal citizenship and no one will create problems for himself or for others," Maharishi said.

• Coherence-creating groups-Groups of experts in Maharishi's peace-promoting Vedic technologies of consciousness should be established throughout the world. Through their daily practice of Transcendental Meditation and Yogic Flying, these experts will enliven the deepest level of Nature's functioning, the Unified Field of Natural Law, which administers the infinite diversity of the universe with perfect order. Extensive scientific research has shown that such groups create a coherent, harmonious world consciousness and eliminate the acute social stress that fuels problems and conflict. Maharishi's plan calls for one large group of 40,000 Vedic experts in India and another group of 8,000 experts in the United States. The plan also calls for 3,000 Peace Palaces to be built in the world's 3,000 largest cities-with a smaller group of 100 to 200 exerts in each Peace Palace.

His Majesty Raja Raam's discovery key to a problem-free world
Maharishi spoke in detail about the recent profound discoveries in the field of consciousness by His Majesty Raja Nader Raam, M.D., Ph.D., first ruler of the Global Country of World Peace. Maharishi said these findings provide the key to creating a peaceful, problem-free world.

"His Majesty Raja Raam has proven that the basis of the human physiology is the field of consciousness," said Maharishi. "The whole physiology is nothing other than the field of consciousness, the field of intelligence. This discovery reveals that the health and well-being of the body, of society, of a nation, and of the whole world can be expertly handled from the field of consciousness. Through Vedic technologies, the field of consciousness, which is the supreme level of Nature's Intelligence, can now be easily enlivened to transform our problem-ridden world into a healthy, peaceful, harmonious family of nations."
